Even though I mainly want to blog about fashion, I figured that I’d document any adventures I go on this summer in a new series I’m going to call “The Day Trip Diaries.” I have a few planned because my boyfriend, Casey, leaves soon for airforce basic training. It’s saddening to say the least, but we both know that the time apart will only do good for our relationship!
My first day trip happens to be at one of my DREAM colleges right here in Ohio, Kent State University. I visited back in November on my birthday with my parents for a tour of the campus. Instantly, I fell in love with the college and area. They have the THIRD best Fashion Merchandising program in the U.S.A. and they have a fashion museum, which is right up my alley!
Our trip started out on a Friday at 6 am with a three and a half hour drive. We had the whole day ahead of us to eat good food, admire beautiful designs made as far back as the 1700s, and walk around downtown of Kent, OH.
About an hour into our drive he missed his turn and insisted that we were not going to use our phones for directions today. I figured there was no sense in arguing and five minutes later we were back where we needed to be.
We stopped at a Denny’s and Starbucks on the way. It didn’t take long until Casey asked me to pull maps up on my phone and find our exit. About that time he gave up trying to only use a map from his car manual.
We finally made it after about a half hour of trying to find parking. Our first stop was the fashion museum, and it did not disappoint.
I didn’t take pictures inside because that would violate the rules and I was too distracted by the beautiful designs regardless. My very favorite exhibit was the 80’s exhibit and it featured a LOT of Oscar de la Renta. I absolutely adore his designs, so it was super exciting to me. I also got to talk to students studying fashion at KSU and learn more about it.
Next, we explored downtown and it was so gorgeous. There were many dainty shops and restaurants. It was super fun to do a little shopping and smell the good food from the restaraunts inside.
Pictured above is me walking up stairs to get to Acorn Alley. Being up there makes you feel like you’re on top of downtown!
After, we headed out to Kent State University’s airport to watch planes takeoff and land. One of Casey’s biggest goals is to become a pilot, and he jokes all the time that one day he’ll fly himself into this airport and visit me!
We stopped at Five Guys for a good, juicy burger. I’ve been trying to eat healthier but I had to make an exception that day for Five Guys. They were delicious to say the least, and we were stuffed after.
On our way out we spotted an outlet mall and decided to shop around. There wasn’t much there except for a few stores and a train that circled the mall. We were really too tired to shop so we decided to get back on the road.
We finally headed home after an amazing day in the cutest little town. Hopefully I get to call this college home in the near future. The campus is beautiful and the fashion program is AMAZING. When all you ever see is cornfields day after day, it’s nice to have a change of scenery.
